This information is from the Incident Management Situation Report from National Interagency Coordination Center: "The fire started on BLM land five miles east of Umatilla, Oregon. This fire is burning brush, tall grass and short grass with active fire behavior with backing and uphill runs. Residences are threatened and road and area closures are in effect."
BLM, US Fish & Wildlife, Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District, Echo Fire, UCFD1, and East Umatilla County RFPD and others are on scene working to contain the Juniper Canyon Fire. Brush 62 and Tender 62 are on the fire line working with the other agencies to try and contain the fire.
A S.E.A.T. plane (single engine air tanker) is being used and has been pulling water from the Columbia River, as well as a helicopter with a bucket.
Update from Central Washington Interagency Center at 6:30 pm: Acres burned - 10,492, located 8.4 miles WNW of Helix.
